I continue to find the architecture stunning (surprising, not necessarily beautiful). I think it's the lack of newer, square, concrete buildings. Are the buildings all from the colonial era or have people continued to build in that style?
It's hard to say. I felt like there weren't too many new buildings (new meaning the last couple decades) especially not in Makeni. I saw one or two modern buildings in Freetown with plenty of glass (the DHL office, I think) and there were some private homes in the hills that were reminiscent of "starter castles" in the suburbs in the US.
